it's true there was a (yes...'a' meaning singler) headbutt but that was fully accidental anyways somthing had changed to mcClellan by that time he was alrady starting to pop out the mouth piece and was acting very strange walking round the ring ect.

it was an accident waiting to happen. when he fought jackson he had shrunk down to middlewieght which he couldnt make naturally and had used diaqualil to gets rid of excess water in the body...including the water around the brain

and when you are fighting regarded as the hardest puncher of all time and with no water to protect your brain from major concussions...it was a bad thing.

after he he won and taking loads of headshots he continued on his career...but he had complained about sustained headaches after that fight.
he also had a very good chin and was rarly phased or hurt.

anyways after a string of victory's he fights nigel benn now benn is a banger but is commonly regarded as shot and past it .he hasnt got the agilty or the aggresion he had before and most of his other fights leading up to it dont seem to point out that he could really turn back the clock against a modern puncher.

fight night comes and after getting dropped benn keeps wading with the punches and catches G-man again and again until around round 5 when benn is dropped for a 4 count..but you see here that gerrald is starting to suffer more than benn. and you could see that his mouthpiece was on the ouside so he was very tired and needed to breath and he was starting to blink more and more...in his corner he was saying he can fell water in his head. when mcClellen took a headbutt he thuoght it best to get a disqualification get this sorted out and fight again...but he trodged on like a fighter who was just too proud for his own good and got to th point that he couldnt coninue and the punches just kept landing and that it's best to lose than take too much punishment.

then 3 mins later he collpased in his corner.real nightmarish stuff has anyone seen frank bruno in the frotn row banging the canvas and screaming at benn to knock him out.

well mcClellen won the first round then lost the next 3 then benn got knocked down agains somwhere and got up and it was a neck and neck fight since

it was the knockdown by gerald that kept him in benn actually out fought him.

mcClellen won 4 points with 2 knockdowns and winning the round.

i had it about even when the stoppage came but benn had just turned it around and in the last 6 rounds won very convingnly

Its a fact he did fight the champion and lose after that he never got a rematch 1.because of being black and 2 because the champ knew he was going to lose.
SAM never got a world title the only title he got was mexican titlewhen he retired he had no money at all and went blind.

Same here I never realised there was such a big after effect on him, i just thought it was like he got knocked out and thats it. Then as i said i watched it again like last year and i was like WTF.

jeffries wasnt ducking him he was ready to fight all comers but only whites may apply. there were loads of top black fighters including jeanette and mcvea. this wasnt a champion who ducked he was just looking in ealry american anti black sentiment

nah it wasnt like that people thought they would lose...in those days a loss was nothing you could always comeback.people ducked him not becuase he was great but becuase he was black.

in those days they had black championships...even sam got the belt.

jack johnson only got the shot after tommy burns who was really really pissed off with jack becuase of his non stop taunting and jeering anywhere..and it got to tommy and he gave in and accepted the challenge and lost very very badly.

great fighter great skills for the time especially for a guy who was what....5'7 5'6 could stand his own against much bigger man and still have the speed and abilty at the lower wieghts

honestly i think he could be beaten badly but he was and deserved a world belt at any wieght.
