What are peoples thoughts on this great boxer and on what he had to go through?

great fighter great skills for the time especially for a guy who was what....5'7 5'6 could stand his own against much bigger man and still have the speed and abilty at the lower wieghts

have you seen the youtube of the footage as great a jab as he had he also cornered his man well having his foot on the outisde of theres.
honestly i think he could be beaten badly but he was and deserved a world belt at any wieght.

then after a few years ona comback after having no money he died pennyless and blind.

impressive i purposely put his name wrong seeing how long it would take for someone to say something about him never the less i think he was a great under achieved fighter he never got a world title shot the only belt he could win was the mexican one because he was african.

Yeh he was black african candian and he was rearly great fighter people were a bit funny because of his colour and the heavy wieght champ didnt want to fight him cause he knew he would lose

dnt know nothing about walker smith but this is about sam langford not him so its rearly irrelevent.
Also sam langford was a great heavy wieght he was like a mini tyson only 5ft 6 he had the power of foreman and alot of great abilitys it is a shame hes broke and blind after before dieing.

so he was canadian then not african if im born in london im not italian

jeffries wasnt ducking him he was ready to fight all comers but only whites may apply. there were loads of top black fighters including jeanette and mcvea. this wasnt a champion who ducked he was just looking in ealry american anti black sentiment

nah it wasnt like that people thought they would lose...in those days a loss was nothing you could always comeback.people ducked him not becuase he was great but becuase he was black.

in those days they had black championships...even sam got the belt.

jack johnson only got the shot after tommy burns who was really really pissed off with jack becuase of his non stop taunting and jeering anywhere..and it got to tommy and he gave in and accepted the challenge and lost very very badly.

sam lost to johnson did you know and very one sidedly out of his prime but still an active body.

but the first black boxer to claim a title was a featheriwghet/bantamwieght called george dixon and he croseed the color barrior before people even thought black people were civilised (yada yada yada place racist nonsense here)

thats what they call him on the wikipedia so i call him that too african - candian seems right to me alot of fighters have been called that.
Its a fact he did fight the champion and lose after that he never got a rematch 1.because of being black and 2 because the champ knew he was going to lose.
SAM never got a world title the only title he got was mexican titlewhen he retired he had no money at all and went blind.
